Summary:

I am a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Engineering Systems Design at the University of Glasgow and an IEEE Systems Society Distinguished Lecturer. I am a cross-disciplinary researcher with interests spanning photonics, sensors and technology-enhanced learning. In particular, my interests are in engineering interactive devices and systems that have a measurable impact on the way people learn. Therefore, I lead the "Engineering Interactive Devices (END)" Research Group, which conducts research at the intersection of Human Factors Engineering, Empathetic Computing, Photonics and Sensors.  The group is interdisciplinary in nature, i.e., the members of our team have backgrounds in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics and Physics. Therefore, prospective candidates are welcome to get in touch if you are interested in working with us. In addition to my individual research, I collaborated with researchers specialising in engineering, product design, psychology, computer science and education.

I held previous industrial positions at Nortel Networks and IBM Research GmbH. I was also a research scientist at EPFL's PV Lab, where I worked on modelling thin-film solar cells. I am a Senior Member of the IEEE, a Senior Fellow of RET and a Member of the IET. Moreover, I am the Regional Chair of IEEE's Education Society in Scotland and the Chair of the IET Pedagogy in Engineering and Technology TN
